Mavin Records superstar Tiwa Savage is the cover star for the July edition of Essays of Africa magazine and she’s an absolute stunner on it.
In this issue, the Eminado crooner details her personal journey in entertainment and marriage as well as the challenges she’s faced through it all.

The Nigerian R&B/ pop star is sure taking things steps ahead in her music and the international recognition is deepening by the day.
On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, she was spotted with Jay Z at the Roc Nation headquarters in NYC and with the pictures came convincing proof about the singer’s management deal with the foremost American entertainment outfit.
All of this came to light following Jay Z’s approval as he was reportedly impressed by the singer’s catalogue and creativity.
In addition, she was recently featured in a mini documentary which aired on E! channel 124 on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
These are truly great times for the singer.
Tiwa Savage relocated to Nigeria in 2010 to pursue a career in music having lived and worked underground in the entertainment industry in the US for some time.
She was then an aspiring singer as well as a fairly recognized songwriter.
Returning in 2010, the song Kele Kele Love produced by Harmony Samuels introduced Tiwa Savage (a starry-eyed, budding entertainer) to the Nigerian audience and everything else took shape from there.
She was first signed to Flytime Entertainment under Cecil Hammond but left in 2011 and moved on to Mavin Records in 2012 while her management was handled by 323, a company she founded with her manager-turned-husband Tunji Balogun, and the push continued for her.
It was a pretty rough process, bringing a female from the US to Nigeria to make magic, as it seemed impossible on many levels. But despite the odds and criticisms, she managed to take things to a whole new level – breaking grounds, carving a name for herself and going as far as dominating a sizable portion of the market.
By 2013 into 2014, Tiwa was unarguably the hottest female export from the (West) African music sector. Nobody was coming close or could come close how much more scratching her records. Her album Once Upon A Time had dropped in July, 2013 (with Tee Billz as one of its executive producers) and it was generating more fire than gasoline and matches put together.

In November 2013, her thinly-veiled romance with then manager Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun blossomed into a full blown love affair and they had their traditional wedding in Lagos and preceded a white wedding in Dubai in April 2014.
By April 2016, exactly two years after, their union hit the rocks after the pair fell out following several irreconcilable differences ranging from allegations of infidelity to distrust, theft and whatnot.
